More F-15E Purchases?

Sat Feb 22, 2003 8:08 am

With the recent South Korean order, the F-15E/K line will be open for quite a few more years to come. What is the likelihood that the U.S.A.F. will order some additional airframes? I know that Israel order the F-16I, but does that mean they will stick with only 1 squadron of F-15Is? Also, I recently read that Boeing is offering the F-15S to Singapore as an A-4 replacement. Is this true and if so, what type of chance does it have?

Most likely. They sure love them Strike Eagles, but they are just too expensive, quantity cannot be discarded all together, that's why the IDF/AF went for the F-16I (they could get about 150-200% airframes for the same amount of money).

It all depends on the attrition rates if the war goes ahead next weekend like many people predict. During the last (second) gulf war, the F-15E was rushed into service, and 2 were lost. If things do not go so well this time around, the USAF may also put in a top-up order in the near future for attrition.
