Air Force Museum Lecture Series

Fri Apr 04, 2003 11:18 pm

The Air Force Museum hosts a lecture series from late summer to late spring each year; the talks are open to the public and begin at 7:30. There is a Q & A session after each talk, followed by the opportunity to meet the speaker and get an autograph. Rarely are these talks boring as you are hearing the story from the person, who is either describing their own experiences or is a noted historian on the subject.

This month's talk is scheduled for April 17th and the speaker is Retired Brigadier General Robinson Risner and his experiences as a fighter pilot for 33 years. I have been present for a talk given by General Risner and this man is a very special person.

A little bit of his resume:

WW II - P-38 pilot in the Philippines
Korea - F-86 pilot with 100+ missions and 8 MiG-15's to his credit
1957 - Transatlantic speed record in a F-100
Viet Nam - F-105 leader, shot down twice, POW for 7 1/2 years, author "The Passing of the Night"

Winner of 65 awards and decorations

It's his name on the trophy for the outstanding graduate of the Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB.

Bronze statues of him at the AF Academy, Nellis AFB, and Randolph AFB.

Even if you have to lose a little sleep, try to attend. See you there!!
