Boeing Sees Govt Ties Aiding Singapor Fighter Sale

Wed Oct 08, 2003 8:43 pm

Boeing : "That (political) relationship is quite critical for how Singapore works with the U.S. government," Parasida said at Malaysia's Langkawi air show. "In reality most of these sales are not really Boeing's, but government-to-government sales."

Honestly, the RIAA deal against online music sharing first came to mind while reading that. Is it quite possible that Boeing wants a share of the sales made in between former customers? Boeing sold the product, they are not leasing it, I don't think they have a say on whom they are sold to after that. Almost sound like a royality issue...since I don't know much about the political environment, my initial guess is that this is all very fishy.

Lehpon, the way these sales work is that the foreign government contacts the US government about the sale, the government then approves the sale, and orders the aircraft from the contractor.

correct. So Boeing sells the aircraft to the US government who works as an intermediate for the Singapore government.

It's not as if Boeing is getting money on second hand aircraft sales (they might, in upgrades, maintenance etc. of course but nothing else).
