F-14 Tomcat Ace

Sat Jan 24, 2004 8:56 am

I read in a Suadron/Signal publication about an F-14 Tomcat test pilot by the name of Emory Brown. A friend of mine told me he was a real top-gun ace in Vietnam. Anyone have any info. or can confirm this.

If he was ace in Vietnam, he didn't do it in a Tomcat. More than likely it was a Phantom. Regards.

But he could have been a test pilot for the Tomcat... He probably moved onto the Tomcat.

He might have been a Top Gun graduate, but he wasn't an ace. The USN only had one pair of aces in the Vietnam conflict: Lt. Randy "Duke" Cunningham and his WSO, Lt. (jg) Willie "Irish" Driscoll

Edited for a typo

I used to see CMDR Cunningham at Miramar all the time when I was stationed there. His wife was the principle of the school my daughter went to. Nice lady.

Not at that time... It was Commander Cunningham, XO of "Top Gun".  Big grin

One of the pilots in my squadron flew with CDR Cunningham when he was the skipper of VF-126. He said you had you're work cut out if you were going head to head with him.

He said you had you're work cut out if you were going head to head with him.

That was an understatement. He wasn't nearly as good of a volleyball player as he thought he was though. Then again, none of the fighter-jocks were as good at V-ball as they thought. Topgun producers had to "draft" the hummer team to teach the actors how to play.  Laugh out loud Then they cut us out of every shot.  Angry
