C-9 Medevac Replacement

Wed Apr 14, 2004 1:23 am

Now that the USAF has retired the vast majority of it's C-9 fleet, is there anything in the works for a replacement for this magnificent aircraft? I know that they are using C-130s and sometimes C-17s in the Air Evac role, but will this be permanent, or is this just an interim plan?

I'd say that at some point the NAVY and USAF will aquier more C-40's (737-700) the US NAVY seems quiet happy with them. I haven't heard anything about the USAF C-40B's (Ex BBJs) but I doubt their unhappy.

As for when, I have no idea. With Sen.McCain now talking about trying to kill the F/A-22. JSF with it's rising costs this early in the program. KC-67 slowly working it's way out from Congress's boot. Who knows where the money will come from.

I doubt there will be a specific aeromedical replacement aircraft. A change in the health care system negated the need to shuffle patients around the country. C-130s, C-141s, C-17s are capable of getting troops evacuated from the battlefield back to the states.

C-40's are frequent visitors into NZY. They are slowly but surely replacing the venerable C-9's. NZY doesnt have any based there YET however.

Well there is a move to privatize every support service the military uses.
