Are Military Statistics Accurate?

Sun Apr 25, 2004 1:48 am

Nowadays it is easy to find information on the military of nearly every country, from the number of personnel to the number of aircraft in their air force (with alot of detail). Figures are published on the internet, books, magazines, television.

I wanted to know how reliable or accurate they are since surely most, if not all, countries would want to keep such sensitive information a 'secret'?

It really depends on the source.

Some countries with more open societies are going to be easier to tally then others. Some countries intentionally are very quiet or downright misleading when it comes to their military

If Jane's defense group is quoted as the source though, generally you can consider it pretty good info.
