"Janet" 737 Flights From LAS To Area 51, Tonopagh.

Wed Apr 28, 2004 12:06 pm

I was watching something the other night along the lines of "Area 51's secrets" on either the Discovery, History or TLC channels.

Basically these guys were spying on folks who worked at one of the "test" sites in Nevada that the Janet flights from LAS serve, video taping them and such as they came back from work and exited the "Janet" parking lot on their way home.

This was occuring at the "Janet" terminal at Las Vegas Mcarran airport.

I had a thought, why on Earth if these people who take these Janet flights everday (to Area 51, Tonopagh etc) work on classified or "secret" projects why are they flying them from a commercial airport in plain sight of everyone?..

Would it not be wise for security if the Janet flights flew from Nellis AFB, that way the employees who work at the facility (Area 51) would not be distinguishable from normal Nellis AFB employees.

Only people with base access would see who gets on and off those Janet 737s everyday if they were operating out of Nellis AFB, they are currently flying out of McCarren and these "UFO " hunters or people with less innocent intentions can see in broad day light who gets on and off these planes and what kind of car they drive. They even can follow them home and be targets for attemted extortion or whatever to try to get information from, they are not incouspicuous flying those White and Red 737s into and out of LAS everyday.

Where as if they were operating from Nellis no one outside the gates would be able to tell the folks who cut the grass at Nellis from the "engineers" who are coming from Secure operating facilities such as Groom Lake.

I see themyth fo "Groom Lake" survives. If you want, you can also see the employees getting off buses on 395.

There's really not much to Groom Lake and Tonopah, other bases are more secure than those two.

If you want a real reason for the security, consider the area between Groom Lake and Tonopah circa 1947-1962. Simply put, it's a dangerous area to be in and will be for thousands of years. Though you can visit a few select sites that have been cleaned up.

There is one other reason things are as they are and I'll bet someone here knows what it is.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

May I recommend ...very fascinating site, anything you ever wanted to know about Groom Lake is there, including how to see it with your own bare eyes (and one hell of a set of telephoto lenses)

The Janet flights are a hold back from the Lockheed days. When Lockheed was at Groom lake for the A-12 (the first aircraft of the so-called Blackbird series) they had C-47 daily flights to Las Vegas, and weekly (may have been more often, don't have my books handy) C-121 flights to Burbank, CA.

Which is understandable even the military or ex-military when the CIA controlled the base) need to get off base every once in a while.

But it's been my understanding that Area 51 has gone dormant, at least that's what I heard, it's too well known to be used for any major weapons development program.

the flights also depart to other military installations.

Most of the passengers are civilians who would rather live in the Vegas Valley than live in the middle of a desert filled with Joshua trees...
