Well, I don't have any first-hand testimony to give you, but I hope these pages help

http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/waf/americas/ecuador/ecu-home.htm

There you've got their whole aviation, naval, air force and army.

This is an excellent account of the Peru-Ecuador war back in '95. I know you're looking for current info, but guessed you could be interested by it. It's got plenty of data about both AFs

The actual condition of the Ecuadorian Air Force, better know as FAE, is of renovation. This includes the purchase of brand new f-16's or Mirage, though FAE hasn't really come up with a sure candidate. Visit

for more information, remember this page is in Spanish.

I've been to Ecuador in September 2003 and I've seen a Kfir, an A-37 and a Mirage F-1 in flight over UIO. Amazing sight, and great sound  Big thumbs up !

Mariscal35, is FAE only looking into the F-16 and Mirage 2000 as candidate for their new Fighter? Or could the Saab Gripen or the Eurofighter Typhoon also be a possibility?

Speedbird

The FAE has been making growing political and financial efforts to acquire 50 new F-16 from the USA, many of which has been rejected. It's my assumption that if this situation continues, FAE could include the Saab Gripen or the Typhoon as a candidate along with Mirage 2000.
