U.S.N. & U.S.M.C. Bu. Nos.

Wed Jun 23, 2004 1:34 pm

Is there a database with civilian access to find a USN/USMC Bu No for a particular aircraft, especially retired ones.

I am trying to locate which VR- squadron an R4D-8 served in, and what R4D type it was before undergoing the "Super DC-3" conversion. Douglas Aircraft changed the construction number upon modification. The Bu No however did not change, which was 17182

The R4D-8 in question is currently based in Honolulu, HI, and is about to take to the Hawaiian skies for its first time in Kamaka Air colors. The civilian reg is N9796N & c/n 43375. It previously flew with Genavco, here in HNL.

If anyone has any info, it will be greatly appreciated.

Try this link, Bluewave. From what I got, the aircraft was ex-USAAF 42-108894, redesignated C-47H in 1962. It may have served with VMR-153.
After that, I drew a blank. See for yourself & maybe you can figure something out that I couldn't. Regards.

Thanks for the link, it was very informative. I did not come across the info you posted. According to the website, BuNo 17182 had no listing. I emailed the webmaster to see if he has any info on it. Mahalo!
