F22 Vs Typhoon Vs Raphale Vs F35

Wed Oct 20, 2004 10:58 pm

Did the US already tested its F22 and F35 against the Euro-build TYPHOON and RAPHALE (or maybe even GRIPPEN) in close combat excercises?
This question also aplies for all other combinations
F22-TYPHOON
F22-RAPHALE
F22-GRIPPEN
F22-F35
TYPHOON-RAPHALE
TYPHOON-GRIPPEN
TYPHOON-F35
RAPHALE-GRIPPEN
RAPHALE-F35
GRIPPEN-F35
IF so, what was the outcome?
IF not what would be the outcome in your opinion?

Try this:

The Gripen isn't in the DERA comparison, but that aircraft really isn't all that advanced. I mean, it's modern but doesn't have a superclassy radar or other systems like some of the other aircraft.

The F-22 would overcome everyone of the aforementioned aircraft due to its stealth ability to get the first shots off, and its maneuver and power in an up close dogfight.

The F-35 and F22 are still in the prototype stage, mind if we get a line production version off the ground first before making comparisions?

Ditto for Eurofighter

L-188 - F/A-22's out of the prototype stage and getting into production. First operationally ready F/A-22s are going to Langley by the end of this year.

Yea, F-22s are in business. If only they were cheaper.
Our enemy might have changed but the conventional threat is still there, we need many more F-22s in the air.

Guys, I sometimes sit on the roof of a parking deck next to the landing path at Dobbins ARB, where Lockheed makes the F/A-22 and watch them take off during test flights. They outclimb their F-16 chase planes pretty easily it seems, and they are spectacular to see in flight.

I too hope to see the USAF get more of these birds, and that we do not have to use them.

My guess is that with comparisons between fighter aircraft, it is not simply a matter of one aircraft being better than another even with everything else being equal. It is probably more like the "paper, rock and scissors" game. Plane A may beat plane B, and plane B may beat plane C. But that doesn't necessarily mean that A beats C, indeed the opposite may be the case.

The DERA comparison only compares everything to the SU-35. The odds may change considerably when the planes are put up against other opponents. This is not even counting the impact of training, readiness, AWACS and other support. These factors tend to be far more important than aircraft choice.
