1st B-52 Lost In Combat 32 Yrs Ago Today

Tue Nov 23, 2004 11:41 am

Hard to believe that on Nov 22nd 1972, B-52D 55-110 became the first Stratofortress lost over Southeast Asia, all those years ago. Fortunately the crew ejected safely over Thailand. Anyone know how many B-52s have been lost in combat? Regards.

According to this webpage: http://www.nampows.org/B-52.html a total of 10 B-52 was lost inside the borders of North Vietnam and another 14 outside, 7 due to combat and 7 were operational losses.

The book I have on B-52's show the first 'comba't loss to be the one you mentioned, with 18 total airframes lost in South East Asia...all to SAM fire.

Total airframe losses must be at least one hundred.
