Canadian AF CC-137s - Where Are They Now?

I know Canada's AF remaining CC-137s were retired in the late 1990s. Have any of these beautiful aircraft been preserved? Have any been sold to cargo operators elsewhere, or have all been scrapped? Any info is much appreciated.

I was wondering the same thing myself recently. If you look at the caption of the picture on the right, it says that this plane was sold to the US and received a new life as this one:

I don't know whether the other planes went in for the same thing, but I guess it's a good guess. Does anyone know if they're still playing this role? The most recent photo is a little less than two years ago.

I remember being on final approach at YOW in a rented C-172, practicing night flying for my night rating, and being squeezed between a Wardair DC10-30 landing ahead, and a CC-137 (AKA 707) carrying the Prime Minister, 4 miles back on final.

The ATC clearance is still seared in my brain: "Golf Echo Yankee, cleared touch-and-go, caution wake turbulence, DC10 just landed; keep your speed up, military 707 4 miles back".

If I recall correctly, all the CC-137's were sold to the US, where they are now used as E-8 JSTARS aircraft (or is it E-6 Mercury - someone will correct me).

I remember during an ATC strike in the 1970's, a CF 707 approaching YWG. There was no ATC at all, so YWG (and every other airport in Canada) was basically a GA field - no airliners flying at all. The guy's radio call was something like, "This is CanForce 707 Heavy 10 miles back for Runway 31. Everyone get out of my way!" No kidding.
The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the manufacturer and impossible for the AME.

They became E-8C's for the USAF. I think they're based ot of Warner-Robins AFB in Macon, GA. The E-6 mercury are Navy Tacamo aircraft. The used E-6A's that we recieved were former AA 707's and the B models were new-build aircraft that were delivered between 1989-92.

Correct, all 5 CF CC-137s became USAF E-8Cs.

However, all of the USN E-6A/Bs were all new build B-707-700 airframes from Boeing. None of them were used aircraft. The E-6A became the E-6B when it was upgraded to launch the ICBM force, and carry the USAF Battle Staff, when the USAF/SAC EC-135Cs retired.

So, the E-6Bs now do two different missions, the USN TACAMO mission for the SSBNs, and the old LOOKING GLASS mission that SAC used to perform.
