How Many Surviving B-47 Stratojets?

Sun Apr 17, 2005 2:36 am

Hi folks...
Just curious to know how many B-47s are still in existence? The only one that I've ever seen is at the WPAFB Museum. Can you believe that there over 2,000 B-47s assembled?? I sure would like see more on display if they're out there, somewhere. Any & all replies & information appreciated.  Wink Regards.

I believe there are some 40+ B-47s, of most models still around. All are gate guards or in museums.

I was just taking pictures of the Little Rock B-47 today. I have always had a fondness for the Stratojet since first seeng the movie "Strategic Air Command". The cockpit mockup for that plane is on display at the March Field Air Museum in Riverside, California.

This is a link I often use to track down display airplanes: http://www.coastcomp.com/av/pres/

Thanks to all who replied. To Gary...that site is pretty amazing. It answered another question for me...any surviving B-32 Dominators. Apparently not.
The reason I wanted to know about the B-47...I've always considered this aircraft to be the grand-daddy of all Boeing's future jetliners from the time the B-47 was launched. I hope that makes sense the way I worded it. Regards to all.  Wink

It was ashamed that the B-47 had the wing crack accidents after they started doing the toss deliveries. It did bring in a lot of innovations with the swept wings and pod mounted engines.

I will have a picture of the Little Rock B-47 in my next batch of pictures I upload the end of this week.

The B-47E at the National Museum of the USAF is no longer on display. The RB-47H is in the Cold War Gallery and can be viewed either from the floor or from the mezzanine that is between the Cold War Gallery and the Space and Missile Gallery.

Yeah that site is pretty cool. I noticed the note about the B-1A, moving to the SAC museum. It's already there, restored, and on display. Unfortunately, it is no longer in the B-1A white paint scheme.

And it's no longer the SAC Museum, and it's no longer in Bellevue, NE, just next to Offutt AFB.

It is now the Strategic Air and Space Museum, and it is located in Ashland, NE.

I knew a lot of folks that worked at the SAC Museum...the "takeover" by the Strategic Air and Space folks was not a happy time.....

At Pease AFB, NH there were some gate guards that I now wonder what happened to them. Pease AFB is now Pease International Trade Port/Pease ANGB. But, the airplanes were:

B-29A
KC-97L
B-52D
EB-47E

All but the B-29 were actually flown into PSM. The B-29 was actually 3 or 4 airplanes put together and repainted as "Bocks Car" for the photo bird on the A-Bomb missions flown by the 509th Bomb Wing. Pease AFB was the home of the 509th from 1957 until 1991.

Does anyone know what happened to these airplanes? When I visited the base in 1994, all four airplanes were still there.

There is a B-47 at the North Air Depot Gate at Tinker (in the air park). I do not know if there is another one at the OKC Fairgrounds, but the TInker one has been around since at least 2000.
