Shuttle Launch Slips Again... To July

Fri Apr 29, 2005 11:53 am

The new launch window is 13-31 July.

Intel I'm hearing is that NASA decided to add a heater to the LOX feed line bellows to prevent ice accumulation and possible debris hazard. This heater was originally going to fly on 3rd RTF flight but was moved up. Modification requires 3 weeks in the VAB

I get the unfortunate feeling that NASA is going to get blamed for not being as thurough as some think they should be before the RTF. It is unfortunate that NASA is catching as much flak as they are.

I think they prefer to take some criticism rather than taking the chance to melt another orbiter. They know that another fatal accident would mean the end of their manned flights for a very loooooong time!
If God had wanted men to fly he would have given them more money...

It is unfortunate that they KNEW the connection point that they are addressing with a heater now was required beffore they even poured the first drops of LH/O2 into the Fu¢ker!! If they were installing a heater at that loaction on the next tank, why didn't they just do this one right in the first place?!?!?
NASA Managment A$$HOLES!!

This is the kind of government in-efficiency that makes taxpayers LIVID. If I love the space program and this makes ME angry; how do those who don't see the point in spaceflight to begin with feel???

I agree with you that they should be taking every procaution. All I am saying is that when NASA has to go back and do stuff again, that logically should have been checked before it makes them look like they don't know what they are doing...or are unwilling to change their 'management philosophy'

I think this whole excercise over the past month has been a rouse to make the American public feel the culture has changed...'yeah we know there's a problem, lets roll it out, prove there's a problem, then roll it back in and act like we care!!

I think that is a little too conspiritorial...I doubt NASA would do that since it makes them also look terrible that they could not have forseen the possibility of more ice on the tank at this location.

I agree with what you are saying, and in a SENSE I might be reaching, but it is a fact that there is a heater on the next ET in the exact same spot they are going to place one now!

As already mentioned the heater is already on the STS115 tank (still at Michoud), not the STS114 or STS121 tanks.
