Breguet Atlantic Will Land At Berlin Museum

Sun May 22, 2005 4:57 am

Some insider information which I got by a member of the Breguet flight crew :

One ex German-Navy Breguet Atlantic (number 61+17) will try to land at the small runway of the German Air Force Museum in Berlin Gatow (the former British Military Airport).
Depending on the weather conditions the 61+17 will be flown on wednesday to Gatow if the flight should not be possible on wednedday the flight will be done on thursday or friday.

Will be interesting since the airport is not in use and the runway has not the best condition. I think only helicopters landed on the place in the last ten years.

There is not much left of the runway. After the British left and the Luftwaffe took over, they sold about half of the property. The rest is only the museum and the Luftwaffe headquarters, with a helipad.

Will be interesting. I will try to be there and have a look. Last time I have been in Gatow was last year. I think the landing in Gatow will be as much interesting as the landing of the Interflug IL 62 on a field.
Like I said the runway does not look very good and I am sure there is no ILS or anything so it has to be a visual approach.

Columba, please let us know if you know any details on the arrival. I'll try to be there (though I'm afraid I won't have the time to come).

I am waiting for an e-mail from a member of the "Marinefliegergeschwader 3" who wants to tell me if they fly on wedneday and what time they will arrive.
I definitely try to be there but I am not sure if I can make it, yet.

Someone please take some photos of that. Get some good ones of the landing strip left as well as the actual landing if at all possible. Those would really make for an interesting view on this thread.

Did somebody made it to Gatow ?
I heard the plane was about to arrive at 8:30 and that the museum was closed as the Breguet landed so I didn´t bother to drive up so early for 45 min just to stay at closed doors. I will probably check it out this weekend when I have more time.

It was said that the runway was cleared (before there were most of the airplanes of the museum parked there) and the airplane lacked all missions instruments and was very light.

I hope at least someone was able to take some pictures maybe someone who lives in the Gatow/Spandau area ?

Sorry, no I wasn't there. I expected the Breguet to arrive at daylight when the museum is closed for the public, either in the evening or early morning. But living at Prenzlauer Berg which is quite far from Gatow, I didn't want to spend all the day at Gatow, nor can I afford it.
