Now I only hope the Colombian Autorities will perform the same kind of inspections that the Chinese made when their presidential plane was deliveried in the search of hidden microphones and other bugs......ohh, I forgot, the US has no need to do this...our government provides them with all our information.

I think it needs a paint job, and I don't think we are going to see it here at BOG very often since it seems that our President has forgotten where the Capital City is and he is managing to remain in the seat for at least, for now, 5 more years,  Sad

A what? Something's going wrong here. You're trying to fool us, aren't you ?!

You want a 16 year old A310 with extremely luxurious VIP interior together with a bunch of practically deposed social demoscrats? You can have the airplane for free if you "take care" of the idiots aboard !!! The deal of your life ... trust me. But don't tell anybody!

Edit: SPECIAL OFFER: In case you also take the opposition you get a second identical A310 for free!

Its livery has "República Bolivariana" titles on one side and "Venezuela" on the other. If you guys accept the deal, we'll just repaint the Venezuela titles and put "Colombia" instead. You'll have to keep República Bolivariana of course.

I'll offer the same deal to you. If you take the A319CJ with Chavez and his gabinet and governors, I'll gladly accept both of your A310s! Do we have a deal?

Please don't count me on that "we", fortunately there is still a lot of people in the country who have realized that our president is leading us into a right wing dictatorship, unfortunately we are still not enough and we are so divided that we are not going to be able to oust him soon.

but please let's get back to the aviation topic and to discuss about our new presidential plane.

OK, a few things from the article to our non-Spanish speakers:

"737-700 BBJ

The plane is ready on a hangar in Delaware and it will go to Colombia next week to become FAC 0001. This week it will receive the FAA certification.

Is almost done, but there are minor work on the interior, which is composed by a meeting room, rest area for the President including a bed and seats for 45 PAX.

It will be used for the first time on a trip to Spain on July 9th, "non-stop" one of its advantages compared to the previous presidential plane. This 737-700 is able to travel 11 hours non-stop and can land in 57 airports in Colombia.

It cost US$1,700 per every hour of flight, which would have been enough to buy 20 Junker-52, the first presidential plane bought 72 years ago.

The -retired- Presidential planes:

FAC 001 (Fokker 28) and FAC 1201 (Boeing 707)."

______________________________________________

Now, is it really 11 hours non stop??

Since 1992 the Colombian government have been trying to replace the plane, but the funds were always used for more critical issues, that is why is such an accomplishment for this government, because it only cost 40 million and it is practically new (22 hours).

Sure, the BBJ's have extra fuel tanks which increase their range, also, the BBJ's are lighter than the commercial 737, so, the BBJ is able to get to alitude faster.

Today I read on the newspaper that the plane didn't arrive last night due to problems on the documentation in the US. Apparently they need to evaluate the weight of the paint in order to establish the gravity center to maximize the efficiency of the a/c.
Weird ah? I would have thought that if it was supposed to arrive yesterday, the paint was already applied don't you think?

If the news appears on the Presidential Web Page, I assume the plane is already in BOG:

The caption says:
Bogota D.C., July 5 - 2005

This it is the new presidential airplane. It is a Boeing 737-700BBJ, that as of today has the matriculation FAC 0001. The a/c has the highest technology, has capacity for 54 pax, a flight distance of 13 hours, max speed of 911 kilometers per hour. The airplane replaces the Fokker 28 (which now will be the alternate presidential airplane) which for 34 years transported the Colombian's Chiefs of State.

MidnightNike,

Sorry for nit picking, but this is an incorrect statement. Off of the Boeing website:

Empty Operating Weight:
737-700 - 83,000+ lbs.
BBJ (1) - 95,000+ lbs.

Max Takeoff Weight:
737-700 - 155,000 lbs.
BBJ (1) - 171,000+ lbs.
