The Coolest 747 In The World Just Landed @ STL

Fri Jun 03, 2005 7:01 am

But don't bother trying to come out to get picks. Security is very tight. For those who know the area, some spotters even got kicked off of the road in front of Berry Hill Golf Course.

But man is she sweet!

I don't see the attraction myself, it looks a bit 60's to me, if i was the President I would swap it for a 747-400 have it re-done in an all matt black "stealth" scheme.

But then I'd go and spoil it all by sticking a great big Silver fern down the side!!  Smile

Yepp. The internal configuration is quite different from a commercial configured 747.

I wish he'd quit wasting my tax money and fly around on a little more efficient aircraft when flying domestically, like the 757.

I'm glad I'm not working today. But if I was it would be very slow.  Smile

True, but even if he did, it wouldn't save that much when compared to the overall operation. There are/were several transport support aircraft, and many, many personnel are involved. But I hear what your saying.

Well, I saw AF1 or 2 or just the VC25's quite a lot. However, I saw the NASA 747 with a Space Shuttle on top only once when I was just a little kiddie and it flew above Europe.

But I agree, the VC-25 is a sharp looking plane, but I also think the paintjob is a little to much '60. Maybe AirOrange can come up with a new scheme?

no..nobody says that what he did was ok either..

the excuse that he needs "extra security" and "has the codes in case of a nuclear strike, xyz" doesn't hold up...he can still get all the security and technology he needs/wants in a 737...not to mention showers, desks, offices, etc..

just a BIG waste of tax-payer dollers...

The reason he flies around in that, is so when a big event happens he can run away and be in the air for 20 hrs without refueling. Try that in a 737. But judging by the way he (didn't) handle the 9-11 tragedy, he really isn't the guy who makes decisions so he doesn't need to waste the governments money that we already don't have because most of our debt is owned by Japan and China

Not being able to run and hide from a nuclear strike just might make your president put the extra effort into preventing one, after all, if you're all dead no one will really give a damn how long AF1 can stay airborne.

Most foreign leaders have things like glorified RJ's. The British use BAe 146's I believe. And I think Australia uses a Challenger.

Does this stuff about he can fly 20 hrs continually in the event of an emergency mean that that bird takes off every flight with ALL tanks full? What a freakin waste of my hard earned money. Georgie should fly in NO MORE than a BBJ domestically. A BBJ with the tanks and goodies has almost the range of the 747 in an emergency, right?? Hell, give him a Cessna Citation X, that'll get him up to FL510 in the event of an emergency... and at Mach 0.91 would stand a better chance of out-running something in that sort of an emergency.

Note: Clinton should have flown in a BBJ, etc. too... but then again oil didn't go > $45/barrel during Slick Willy's term.

All of this about a VC-25A having a 20 hr endurance is misinformed. They can stay up as long as the KC10's fly; they have inflight refueling capability.

Quoting Toronado82-Note: Clinton should have flown in a BBJ, etc. too... but then again oil didn't go > $45/barrel during Slick Willy's term. Here's a quote from http://chinese-school.netfirms.com/commodities-market.html
{There have been numerous recent studies which indicate that current oil and gas fields have peaked in their maximum levels of production, that the easy-to-get oil and gas reserves are being depleted, and that future potential reserves will be much more expensive to mine and extract. And not to mention the growing demands and usage of energy by the developing world - especially from such countries as China, Vietnam, and India. Recently, China battled against (and lost) Japan to gain a oil pipe line from Russia.
All of these factors point towards much higher oil and gas prices, translating to much higher commodity prices in general. It is to be noted that many of the other commodities, such as soft agricultural commodities, are either derived from or produced with oil and gas products.} Quit blaming Bushie because you actually have to start paying a fair price to gas up your gas sucking SUV's, Boats and other toys. Bush or any President flying around the world in a 747 is not cutting into your wasted tax dollars anymore than you yourselves are.[Check how much tax you pay per gallon of gas] How many of you are willing to quit driving your cars, using your boats or quit taking those weekend joyrides in an airplane to conserve the worlds diminishing oil reserves?

Wake up to what? America has been preventing nuclear disaster for years. If Russia had its way... you would have seen one dropped right over Western Europe long, long time ago during the cold war days! Give it a rest please and talk about airplanes. N867BX . I have no idea what the hell your refering to, I'm as big of a waster of oil as the next person. All I'm saying is quit blaming the President{no matter who it might be} because the price of oil is so high. As far as AirForce one goes, it is not determined by the president as to which plane becomes Airforce One, its up to the US Airforce. It just so happens this time it was a 747{and yes I do know that regardless of which aircraft the president flys it is refered to as AF1} It is a perk that comes with the job, It is a symbol of this Nation. No different than when the President rides around in a 9000lb Limo. How much power to we show when our President is riding around in the backseat of a Yugo or riding up front in an open Bi-plane? I didn't hear anyone complain when Billyboy flew on Airforce One to L.A. to get his hair cut.

Anytime, baby!

...From http://www.isrjournal.com/story.php?F=327971:

The 737 MMA will have a 41,000-foot altitude ceiling and a deployment range of 5,000 nautical miles. Boeing demonstrated that its 737 can fly low and slow over water, which was a question mark that initially favored the turboprop Orion21. The latter offered longer endurance, about 30 hours, compared to more than 20 for the 737 using its air-refueling capability.

The reason he flies around in that, is so when a big event happens he can run away and be in the air for 20 hrs without refueling.

Actually, he would still likely land and pick up one of the E-4s

Quoting Dtw9 (Reply 28):
Clinton should have flown in a BBJ

No BBJ then. I regularly chose the 757

I thought I read somewheres (keyword THOUGHT) that the 742's engines basically need to have their oil changed after a couple dozen or so hours of operation???

The VC-25s have 744 engines

Air Force One has a nicer interior than BMW could ever build.

Haha, ah yes... who had the BMW with interior by KIA again?

fly around on a little more efficient aircraft when flying domestically, like the 757.

it is a nice sleek plane, and looks awesome from any angle! They stopped up here in good ol Kamloops a few years back, and what a site!
You can't get there from here.

Airshow

Any proof? I'm having a hard time believing this because I read somewhere that everytime the shuttle transporter is used, it costs at least a million bucks. I'm doubting they flew one of the space shuttles all the way to Europe is all.

The Sultan of Brunnei has a cooler plane and HE OWNS IT !!! GWB will be plane less in Jan 20 2008 (hopefuly!)

Considering he's in his second term, and by constitutional decree, cannot run for relection for a third term, this will be a given ...

And I'm sure ATC had to close air traffic to and from STL why this nitwit decided to land at a major airport. Let me guess, he landed at peak time as well? Cost the airlines millions in delays...brilliant. He did the same at O'hare a few summers ago and caused up to three hour delays. Remind me again, who voted for this guy?

I think you folks are forgetting that the VC-25A is equipped with a very sophisticated (and well-protected in nuclear environments) communications suite that takes up a massive amount of space inside the plane. It's designed that if the President can't get to the E-4B National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC) plane, the VC-25A has enough communications facilities onboard to command all USA strategic forces.

That communications need was why the USAF chose a modified 747-200 instead of the DC-10 or Boeing 767-300 for the new Presidential plane.
