New Life For Portuguese Air Force SA330 Puma

Fri Aug 12, 2005 10:23 pm

Hi!

Just wanted to inform that starting next year Portugal Air Force will withdraw their fleet of SA330 Puma and pass it to Portugal Fire Department, they'll be used to fight the fires that normally attack Portugal during the summer. Also a minister is saying that next year FINNALLY Portugal will buy their own fire-fighter air equipment!!!! I only believe when I see it!!!!

Like you i will believe it , when i will see these helicopters and planes !!!!!!!
When they will be delivered it will be too late , mostly all the entire forest of the country will have burnt.Highly sad !!!!!!!!!
Hope one day , criminals making this job will be strongly punished.
I heard that right now , all people being seen , putting a forest in fire , can be shoot by the personn who see him.Could you confirm that ?

How many of the Pumas will be allocated to firefighting ?

I can confirm that rumour is completely false... I mean, police in our country can get into trouble for shooting a convict trying to escape...

I don't know how many will be converted but they will become redundant for military needs as of late 2006/early 2007 as all AgustaWestland EH101s are delivered.

Hi FCKC!

I think Portuguese AF will start to pass the SA330 real soon. They already received their first EH101's so thing will change from now on! By the news looks that all 10 SA330 will be relocated! If you didn't knew Portugal Pumas arrived in 1969 and during all these years only 2 were lost, 1 in Africa and another in Portugal in the 80's ( I think.. ). The rest of them have soldiered strongly during more than 35 years!!!
