Will the US ask for help from Mexico and get some Mil-17s and Mil-26s going?

I doubt the U.S. would ask for outside aircraft, we've got plenty and they're near by. Now Search & Rescue and Collapse Teams I could see them asking for BIG TIME once the flooding is under control.

Allesandro:

No Russian helos or IL-76s have arrived yet. If the story I heard was correct, the US response was "thanks, but we can handle it".

US mil/USCG comments recently seem to indicate that they're flying as many helicopters in the disaster area as safely possible now, not enough room for any more US ones, let alone civil or foreign.

The US doesn't need any helos or military equipment, just the oil that's inside!

Mexico could very send some crude or even petroleum to help subside these terrorist bean counters trading the oil at exhorbant rates causing our gas prices to skyrocket at criminal rates.

I think the US should rescind the $20 BILLION they had previously pledged to donate to Africa for AIDS as they have more important needs now, and then they should bulldoze New Orleans and rebuild it tens of miles inland. And if people want to continue to shoot at the rescue choppers than air drop them some rubber rafts and let them paddle their happyasses out to safety by themselves!

From what I understand, they need helos, plenty of big helos.
Even Sweden are preparing to send help to the US, no helos as far as I know?

Whatever gave you that idea? US is using UH-60/SH-60 and CH-47 primarily, with the USCG supporting with Dauphin/Jayhawks, and the occasional UH-1.

What advantage would an MI-26 offer?

The H-53's are large enough and even they are too big for SAR, so between the CH-47 and CH-53's readily available the US quite franlky is not in need of aviation assets. They are already in danger of overcrowding the skies over New Orleans and creating for a dangerous situation in and of itself.

But these large helos could be used to fly supplies down there, and doing that they wouldn't use up the capabilities for SAR missions?

Wouldn't that work?

Oh sure it could work but it's just not necessary. Ft. Hood has already sent over helos and they alone have more than enough to offer more. Between the coastal CG bases, Active Army and Guard, not to mention a few helos from the USN there is plenty of helos available.

It's a nice gesture but moeny for the victims, rebuilding, or even just oil/gas would be better used.

AirRyan, you divert the Mil-26s to fire-fighting with bambi buckets and re-inforcing the broken sea-walls and bring pumping equipment to dry out.
No I don´t think US can handle this themselves without +100.000 casualities
(which I already fear has happened)....
