What of it? There are numerous items in the photo that will be removed before launch or items that are missing that will be replaced before flight.

Nothing much. It just seems to me that if there was one US Govt agency that could come up with solid technical solution....

On the other hand, duct tape does have it's geek appeal.  thumbsup

It's just holding on a not-for-flight protective cover.....

You're not one of those folks who wants a $500 solution when a $5 one will do are you?  Smile

I don't know about you, but in my book, duct tape IS a solid technical solution!

It's not duct tape. It's speed tape. There is a difference

No, it's gaffer's tape.  Smile

Anyway, it's just used to keep covers in place so that rainwater doesn't get into the rocket nozzles and other access doors while the Shuttle sits on the pad in the weeks before launch. It's removed before the Rotatiing Service Structure pulls away the day before launch.

Looks too dull and gray to be speed tape which is shinier and more silver.

There was an Article while discovery was docked that said one of the more valuable items Discovery was bringing was indeed duct tape.

If it's good enough for red-green, why not NASA?

Very true, During the time Discovery was prepping for it's de-orbit the crew became aware that they had run out of room for storing some last minute items. So after a few minutes of talking with mission control it was decided to place the items in a garbage bag and duct tape it to the floor of the airlock. It was pretty cool to listen too.

LOL. Those PHucking PHantoms are PHabulous SATL

I still stand by it being speed tape. Why doesn't someone call NASA and confirm? I'm sure they'd take the time to find the answer.....
