Make Your Own Airshow(military Version)

Thu Oct 20, 2005 1:27 am

What would be your dream airshow?...the biggest, the most aerobatic, most vintage, most displays, etc.

Mine would focus on modern military aviation from around the world. I would have demos and static displays of:

U.S.

  • F/A-22
  • F-35 JSF
  • F-14
  • F-15C & E
  • F-16
  • A-10
  • B-1B
  • B-2
  • F-117A
  • (static disp. only) HAVE BLUE/YF-23/SR-71/X-45/47UCAV
  • (static disp. only) E-3 SENTRY AWACS/E-8 Joint STARS/C-5/KC-10

Foreign

  • Eurofighter Typhoon
  • SU-35/37
  • MIG-29
  • Tornado
  • Mirage 2000
  • Saab Draken & Gripen
  • J-10
  • TU-160
  • (static disp.only) EP-3 Nimrod/NATO AWACS/A-50 Mainstay/AN-225(for good measure)

Flying displays would include a mock air attack w/ PLENTY of pyrotechnics.

I would also include aerobatic displays by the Blue Angels, the Canadian Snowbirds, the Red Arrows, and the Russian Knights.

I would only add a few classics to that, such as F-104 (Starfighters team flies a display with them) MiG-21, & Sabre. I also saw our guys fly a routine with the CC-150/A-310, & I have to say seeing a big plane fly like that is...pretty creepy. It just doesn't seem right.
My displays would include an actual attack/firepower demonstration with live ordinance. No stupid gasoline explosions for me! Bring a helmet, sign a waiver. Throw in some supersonic passes down the flight line while we're at it.

I forgot to mention my biggest 'pet peeve' about airshows: the insane cost for food and beverages! That's definitely something that won't happen at my airshow, lol.

I want F-4 Phantoms there as well, otherwise your list covers it. Some B-52s with turbojet engines would also be nice, but these don't exist anymore unfortunately...

Good list, maybe add...
  • A fly-by air-to-air refuel, a KC-10 refueling a B-52 or B-1, and maybe a Viking refueling an F-18 or F-14
  • An airshow competition between the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, Russian Knights, etc.., with the crowd voting which was best
  • Have on static display a C-5 nose to nose with the Antonov 225
I have more in mind, but there isn't an airfield big enough for everything.  Smile
What the? Did everything just jump around? Or did my brain just stroke off there for a second?

I would have a Blue Angel and Russian Swifts demo team mass formation. Blue and red would look good in the air. I would also have dogfights between SU-37s and F/A-18E/Fs. Unlimited supersonic flybys and especially a B-1. I saw that twice while on the boat. That was some scary stuff. We expected it to be loud but it still made us crap our pants. The whole boat shook very violently when it went by at around 200 feet off the water. I wish I had the camera at the time. I would also have live bomb drops, away from the crowd of course. I would also have gun strafing runs, very cool. I am not asking for much.

First off I would have every able plane do a supersonic flyby sometime during their demo. I would also have more airpower demos, with real bombs.

Flying:

U.S:
B-1B
B-2
F-15C
F-15E
F-16
A-10
F-18E
F-18C
E/A-6B

World:
Luftwaffe Tornado
British Tornado
Dutch F-16
Russian SU-27
Russian SU-35
Swiss F-5
Swiss F-18

Static:

U.S:
KC-10
KC-135
E-3
E-8
C-17
C-5
S-3
E-6

World:
RAF L1011
Luftwaffe A310
RAF VC.10

Main attraction would be a flyby of one of the USAF VC-25s (AF1) with the USAF Thunderbirds on its wings. AF1 would then land and taxi down the flightline while the Tbirds would start their demo. I think that would be awsome!!
