Pictures From Edwards AFB Open House 2005

Mon Oct 24, 2005 2:20 pm

As usual Edwards AFB Open House was officially opened by a sonic boom at 1000h produced by a F16, while Brig Gen. Charles "Chuck" Yeager flew a P51D low over the airfield.
The P51-D:

Piloted by the "old" guy with the white cap (sorry for the blue coloration - the whitebalancing was off-set):

Some other acts:

Another rare sight:

The B2 Spirit was not only there for flybys, but actually was operating out of EDW.

After the ordonance has been delivered, first this happens ...

Does anybody know what this is ?:

Tora! Tora! Tora!

And finally the balbo of USAF´s heavy metal:

That´s all for now.

Correct ! The hot end of a F16 (including the small nozzles to inject fuel into the exhaust - aka. "afterburner").
The sad part with EDW is that the runway is soooo far away from the flight line and that views to it are obstructed by a number of bushes.
Also during the day the action at show center takes places directly in the sun, thus making shots very complicated. That´s why some photographers with on-base connection used to go to a non-public spot south of all the action ...

BTW, has anybody seen any figures regarding attendance on those two days ? My impression was that on Sunday the attendance was not too big (i.e. lower than at my last visit).
