Now that is a nice looking bird. Hopefully someday I'll be sitting in the cockpit at Eglin getting ready to crank her for the first time.

I actually don't think it will be the last manned fighter. Unmanned platforms have proven alot in the last few years, but IMHO the man in the cockpit stays.

At first glance she dosn't look much diffrent from the X-35. Not like The F-22A v.s. YF-22 that had some big changes.

If the F-35 in these first roll out photos is really "Fully Assembled" it would be a first in the modern history of military aircraft manufacture.

Traditionally it "Just Enough Assembled" to meet the contract schedule date leading to first flight. Probably 80% assembled more accurate.

Still a great achievement.

Have fun,

Nice looking plane.. but how much trouble is the JSF project in?
It seems the UK is having doubts, largely I believe based on technology transfer squabbles and recently talking about cancelling and buying 150 Rafale. I also read somewhere there is pressure to cancel the AF version and make the USAF and any other customers, like Australia, that wanted it take the more expensive Navy version.

Personally I am concerned that the RAAF is banking almost it's entire future on something that may or may not happen, at least not in the form(or price) initially contemplated. Perhaps the RAAF has a plan (hidden agenda maybe) to replace JSF with F/A18E/F and F-22 if JSF runs into trouble.
Maybe the Dassault salesmen should make some calls in Canberra.

If your camera sends text messages, that could explain why your photos are rubbish!

The UK's planned purchases were small compared to the US militaries planned purchases. As for the Navy version versus AF version, I think all three variants will be offered, but if not isn't the Navy version the one with better performance?
