USN To Ground All Aircraft For One Day

Sun Mar 05, 2006 12:43 am

According to CNN.com the United States Navy has decided to ground it's entire fleet for atleast half a day for a safety review. The Navy is concerned over the amount of serious crashes that have occured since October 1. This is a pretty drastic step as it even includes all aircraft that are deployed oversees. Here's the link:

Happens all the time, except this is the first since '97 that all aircraft must complete the half-day stand-down within one set week. But it won't be everyone on the same day.

However, safety stand-downs happen all the time. Usually at least one per fiscal quarter.

Does anyone have a listing of the 9 crashes since October? F-18, T-39, EA-6B.... what else?

There were two T-34 crashes in Corpus Christi back in January, one was fatal with an instructor and student. There was a T-45 that went down on Halloween, both pilots ejected safely. An SH-60 went down off the coast of Columbia in December. That's all I can think of for now, I know there was a F-18 off of australia, one out in el centro, and the other in key west.

But as USNSeal said Safety Standdowns happen pretty frequently, especially within the training command, and before or after holidays.

Yea I knew of the pilots who went down off the coast of SC. RIP. A friend of my friend in the navy. Hopefully they will be found someday.
