RAF Coltishall - What's The Latest?

Wed Mar 15, 2006 2:42 am

So flying at Coltishall is supposed to fade away by the end of next month, or so I read on the internet. Any more up to date info on what is really going to happen?

There are many rumours going around about what might eventually happen to the airfield at Coltishall but they are just that - rumours !

What is for sure is that the remaining Jaguars (about 20 aircraft) are due to depart the base on Saturdat 1st April (not a joke). The plan was that 41 squadron would disband and give up its Jags but the 41 Sqn nameplate is now being kept and transferred to the Fast Jet & Weapon Operational Evaluation Unit at Coningsby. 6 Squadron will be keeping its Jags and looks set to operate them for at least 18 months again from Coningsby.

The RAF are due to have completely pulled out of Coltishall by the end of December 2006 but only time will tell what - if anything - replaces their presence at this historic airfield.
