Looks very nice. You and the caption both say "first" A340, so how many more are there yet to come?

I will say, though, I had to do a double-take, as whatever is on top of that bit of scaffolding above the cockpit looked very much like the front-end of the Millenium Falcon, lol.  Yeah sure

My best guess is that it will be 3 A342s and they will all come from OS.

This particular one, MSN81, used to be Austrian's OE-LAH.

Oh, so they're not new frames? Interesting. Do you know if they've done any sort of retrofits or modifications for the Air Force? Thanks for the info, LTU!

If you look at the pictures you can see artifacts from the austrian livery (tail), will those artifacts disapear or will they remain, because I think that would look awful especially for a head of state aircraft.

Looks nice. We should get one for Angie as well. Those Interflug A310s may fit to her, but not to the country.

It looks dreadful - why do the French AF insist on painting those tacky 1960's nasty stripes that went out with the DC-8 on their new aircraft - time for a change !!

Actually it will be 2 A342. ex-OE-LAG/LAH. OS never had 3 A342.

I am almost sure that these two A342 will not be head of state a/c, but rather transport a/c to fly military personnell around the globe (for which the French state used to charter normal airliners).

Yep the cabin will also be modified in the next couple of weeks.

The particluar one pictured here is ex OE-LAH (you can still see the aircraft name Asia on the nose.

when I was based at CDG 3 years ago, the militaries would use an antiquated retroffited DC8: to repatriated troops from New Caledonia, the plane would do Kangaroo in Indonesia,CMB and DXB.
the most modern option was an ugly A310 with slightly better range
I guess these new buses will partly solve the problem

I agree, but at least it looks better than on the A319s.

JGPH1A,
I am sorry, but the colors of this bird have been introduced with the first A310s.
This livery has never been on the DC8s. (and I prefer this old livery)

What Ka says is also what I heard. The A319CJ's are for VIP and the A340's for troop/cargo transport.

Maybe once LH gets rid of their first A343, then Angie might get one.  Wink

I stand corrected. Thanks.

Kind of sad IMO. I initially thought this would become France's version of Air Force One or Blair Force One. Big grin

BTW, great picture, Peter! Well done.

No idea. Either it's a French Air Force A319CJ or he just charters an Air France 747.

I recall that when Concorde crashed, Chirac was on board an AF 747 going on a state visit somewhere, so Chirac chartering with Air France doesn't seem far fetched.

Just imagine Jacques Chirac chartering an AF A380 (if he stays long enough in office). Big grin
