Russia Pulling Out Of An-70 Project

Sat Apr 08, 2006 5:36 pm

According to BBC Russian service (Russian) and Interfax news agency (English) reports, the Russian government has pulled out of the joint Ukrainian-Russian-German Antonov-70 project. This comes as little news after recent comments by Defense minister Ivanov, but is still pretty much a disappointment since it's obviously the final blow to this interesting project for a new 4-engine turboprop transporter.

"German-AN 70 project" - Germany was interested but has decided for the A400M long ago ?
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Haven't they order 164 An-70s already. Sad news, woud have a great airplane, but with the Russians it won't be built in large numbers IMHO ...

Correct, despite the fact that the An-70 would have been far cheaper and more effectiv. The procurement was said to be politically motivated as part of a "Buy European (EU)" policy ...
