RAAF BBJ's

Fri May 26, 2006 8:25 pm

Who are the two RAAF BBJ's leased from and how old are they? I've had a look on all the RAAF and ADF websites and can't find anything, have also done a search on here.

Thanks

A36-001 and -002 are brandnew planes, bought directly from Boeing and delivered in 2002 if I recall correctly. The airforce are also getting B737-700's converted as AEW planes.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!  wave

This is true but they were leased not purchased by the RAAF. I had assumed that it was one of the specialist aircraft leasing companies but someone mentioned to me only last week that it was one of the larger Australian banks.
Am not sure of the facts so sadly cannot be more definitive.

Cheers

QFA,

That link takes us to a photo of an AA 757 landing at St Maartens, excellent photo but not all that relevant to the thread

QFA,

I accept that the BBJ and Challengers are leased but they were new build specifically for the RAAF, rather than 2nd hand A/C like the 707 fleet was.

Defence forces leasing aircraft, especially non combat types is not a new or rare thing eg the RAF C-17.

Regards

Chris

I know they are leased and I know they are brand new but who owns them. the RAAF can't just lease planes off no one, some one has to own them.

QFA,

A little Google searching- RAAF BBJ Lease- turned up this, http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2002/q2/nr_020627g.html

It states the A/C lease will be managed by Qantas Defence Services, their primary business is not as a lessor so I would expect that a financial institution is underwriting this transaction. I have heard mention of National Australia Bank in relation to this but have no actual 1st hand information to support that.

Regards

Chris
