There is a website about space-a travel which tells you how many available seats are left. But for getting a seat? It depends on your military status and the purpose of travelling. If you're just flying to Frankfurt for vacation and 300 Marines are heading to Frankfurt to Bahrain heading to Iraq, chances are slim.

I flew on a USN C-40 from Virginia Beach, VA to NAS North Island with my squadron going on deployment, we had a retired guy travelling to San Diego with his family of 4, he got lucky to get on that flight with us, but thy didn't enjoy the unscheduled stop in Whidbey Island picking up some gear and a maintenance issue stop in Lemoore.

Take it from an ex-reservist, its not the easiest thing in the world, but it all depends on where you're coming from and where you're going too. Travis AFB is the Space A hub of the west coast while Dover AFB is the hub for the east coast.

Since you're a reservist, you're at the bottom of the list for people to get on the plane, so your best bet is to travel during "off seasons" where family's summer or winter vacation doesn't come into play. You'll have to get a form (don't remember which one at the moment) from your CC authorizing you to fly space-A, thats usually easy and just a formality. As soon as you get that form signed, call your departure base, AND your arriving base and sign up ASAP! Very important. The longer you are on the lists at the bases, the better your odds are for getting a seat. But remember, you can't sign up until you get that form signed.

I've traveled space-a plenty of times in my reservist time, its fun but you have to be patient, and have the time to spare. Make sure you have plenty of money just in case it doesn't work out for you. Good luck  Smile

DD-235 or an Air Transportation/Space A aurthorisation form. Contact your local air terminal to get one of these. This is for CONUS travel only. Also, if you are thinking about flying by Navy, PM me and i'll give you the numbers to the VR squadrons ops desk. They usualy have missions posted before the terminal knows.

I can see that. I don't like coming here, and it my home station.

If, try North Island. or Pt Mugu (if you don't mind flying on a C-130). The AFB's are difficult becuase everyone and their mother is trying to Space A out of these places. Travis is a zoo becuase it has all the direct flights to Hickam, Yokota, Kadena, and Osan, while places on the East coast like McGuire, Dover, Charlslton, and Westover are the directs to Rota, Mildenhall, and Ramstein AB. Families are less likely to want put their kids through a 5 hr drive to North Island to go on a C40 to HIK with a bunch of maintainers and aircrew going on DET. We're usually farting, using foul language or watching porn. You might like it though.
