C-17 At JFK

Thu Sep 28, 2006 1:31 am

Hello everyone!

While spotting at JFK this past Monday, I saw a McDonnell Douglass C-17 take off from 31L around 6:30pm local time. The take off was so powerful that even the ordinary passersby turned their heads up to see it. Any idea what it was doing in JFK?

Dubya was in Greenwich, CT on Monday for a fundraiser so it was probably there to support that visit.

If that was the case, wouldn't it make more sense to land closer to Greenwich than JFK?

There isn't anywhere closer that you could land a C-17 I don't think. I'm sure HPN wouldn't work!

Considering the places in the battlefield the C-17 is meant to land on, I'm not sure that HPN would present a problem...now Air Force One on the other hand...If NYC777 is right, I'm assuming AF1 went into JFK, along with any support a/c, and then he helicoptered over to Greenwich. Much easier to secure Air Force One and Marine One at JFK than at other smaller airports...it's downright normal at JFK.

Well I do know that he took a helicopter to Greenwich (saw presidential UH60s from my officer window) and the people I talked to said that they set down in park where he was driven to a private house for the fund raiser.
