Congress To USAF-Plan To Keep The 144th At Fresno

Sat Oct 07, 2006 2:34 pm

The Defense Spending bill signed last month included a directive from Congress that the Air Force develop a plan to keep the California ANG's 144th Fighter Wing at FAT in an active status.

The 144th provides air defense for the southwest. But it still operates with F-16's with no current plan for their replacement. So many have been concerned the unit and base would be closed when the -16s retire in 2012 or so.

It will be interesting to see the plan.
