Condi's C32 Trip To Asia

Wed Oct 18, 2006 10:40 pm

So Secretary Rice landed at Haneda Airport this morning on the first stop of her Asian diplomatic foray. Did the C32 take her nonstop from ADW??

Hooray! Somebody actually called it a C-32 instead of "Airforce 2". I think I'll have to have a beer to celebrate!

I wasn't aware that the C-32 has any additional fuel tanks, although its range is said to be 5,500nm. Nevertheless she has to make a fuel stop in order to cover the the roughly 6,000nm from to ADW to HND.

The standard fuel stop would be at Elmendorf. But, yes, the USAF C-32As (equipped with P&W engines) have additional fuel tanks giving them more range than the standard B-757-200. I believe that USAF also had additional fuel tanks added to the C-32Bs (equipped with RR engines) they bought used.

Do the C-32B serve the same purpose as the C-32As do?

Yes, but they are only painted white, with just the tail number in black. They do not have the same presidential blue paint job the C-32A, C-40B, and VC-25A has.

Well, equipment can't be the same. The B-versions are missing most of the antennas of the C-32A and also some items that I consider part of a missile warning system ... take a look here:

There is something black in front of the small fin near the APU exhaust, that is missing on th B-Version. Missile warning system? Seems to be logical position for it ...
