What Is A Usaf U-60

Fri Nov 03, 2006 12:25 am

There is supposed to be a "U-60" flyby at West Point tomorrow. Does anyone know what it is? That's one number I've never heard of.

Thanks

Blackhawk

Message too short
The message you were about to post is too short and probably not of any higher value to the topic at hand. You should think long and hard before posting a message in this forum and make it detailed and a valuable addition to the topic discussed.

Avoid posting "Me Too" messages. These are messages that are posted by people who agree to a point being discussed and post a one liner, "me too!", "Good post Jim!", "I disagree" or similar message. This takes up time as readers must sort through these messages which have no real value to the group at large. Any message containing nothing more than a line or two of text is probably not worth posting.

If you have an opinion on a topic, you should in detail express why you have the opinion and what made you come to that conclusion.

Your post should be relevant to the topic discussed.

No, the typo was, as suggested above, omission of the "H"

If its USAF, then it would be the HH-60G. I seriously doubt those would be on display, so I am guessing that it would be ANG or Army UH-60s.

I'd guess ARNG or Army over "brand X"

HH-60G

In the Army the "U" is for utility, a category smaller than cargo. What does the Air Force use the extra "H" for? Or is that just a product of their "Department of redundancy department?"

HH- birds are for (C)SAR. HH-3E Jolly Green Giant, HH-53B Super Jolly Green Giant), HH-60G Pave Hawk (USAF), HH-60J Jay Hawk (USCG), etc...)

See?

P.S. Use of "duh" is considered pretty rude here in Tech/Ops. Are you sure you didn't mean to be posting in Civil Av?

Just for the record, I maintain the customs and border patrol variant should be renamed the "Crack Hawk":

Well, depending on the specifics of the drug trade.
Maybe the Smack Hawk?

Exactly. They would be mission-specific.

Then there's the Vac Hawk, outfitted for astroturf maintenance and gopher removal:

Did the 8th AF operate the Flak Hawk out of England during the war?

That's what we've been calling the MH-60S 'NightHawks' here at NAS North Island. For some reason they have a tendancy to develop cracks in some of the main transmission beams right around 3000 hours. Relief is in sight- got one here modified with a titanium beam~ gonna give that a go here pretty quick!

I always said that the Navy made a mistake replacing the H-46s with these things!!! The K-Max would've been better for this VERTREP thing we do...
