F-18 Crash In San Diego

Fri Dec 01, 2006 5:58 am

MSNBC is reporting a crash, pilot condition is unknown. Nothing else available on this just yet... Hope the pilot survived.

They are saying the pilot ejected and was located in a canyon near Mirimar Marine base. Still no word on his condition.

Here's the good news-the pilot ejected safely and is okay. The crash started a brush fire that burned about 5 acres, but is now almost fully put out. Scary situation, but thank God the pilot and everyone on the ground is okay.

The Fire Department did a great job containing the fire, IIRC this area where the F/A-18 crashed was burned during the 2003 Cedar Fire.

I didn't hear the crash, I'm on the western side of Miramar. I saw a few helicopters and I heard on the news that one of them helped put the fire.

Glad everyone is okay.

Wow what time was this? I was home during the middle portion of the day...napping, but I was home. lol I'm on the western side of Miramar as well...just on the other side of 805. I can see the base from the house. Crazy...

Gotta love that news video..."F/A-18 Delta which is our single seat model". Yeah, what a shame.

Any word on what was the cause of this crash?

Heard the pilot was OK, so thats always a blessing. Also, smooth move on the pilot to crash it in a isolated area away from people/homes.
