Red Arrows In Mid - Air Collision

Sat Jan 13, 2007 1:31 am

Two Red Arrows planes have been involved in a mid-air collision during a training exercise over Lincolnshire.
The tip of one plane touched the tail of another during a flight over their base at RAF Scampton near Lincoln.

Seven aircraft were flying at the time, and an investigation has concluded that one of the pilots carried out an incorrect manoeuvre.

No-one was injured and the collision was described as "a minor incident" by a spokeswoman for the display team.

But she added it was being treated extremely seriously, as safety was the number one priority.

I live about 10 miles away from Scampton. At least it wasn't serious, I mean, we've all seen the possible effects of such an incident.

I was born at scampton, and lived 4 miles from RAF Cranwell when they were based there. My mum was actually at one of the RAF Messes overlooking the main runaway when the Red Arrow plane pilot ejected a few years ago and saw the whole thing happen.

Thankfully all is ok
Where does the time go???

Shouldn't they be out in Cyprus at the moment?  Confused

Collision?

They touched, which considering the circumstances is not entirely unexpected. Perhaps an occupational hazard?

Collision implies that they smashed into each other and they fell out of the sky. Sensationalism by the press I think.

Quoting Gkirk (Reply 3):

The incident was quite a while ago, note from the BBC report that an investigation had already been carried out into it and put forward a conclusion - that takes time to do.

Its only now just being made public.
