Vickers VC10 And Fighters At BOS

Wed Feb 07, 2007 8:41 am

I flew into BOS yesterday (Monday) morning, and parked on the ramp beyond Terminal E were a Vickers VC10, as well as 2 fighters. Since they were in the distance and I could see them only from directly behind, I couldn't tell what type they were. Having a wide-angle lens, I didn't even try to take a photo.

Does anyone know whose these might have been? My guess was some head of state flying with an escort, but since I've never seen fighters there, I have no idea. I don't believe the fighters were planes flown by the US Forces.

Maybe RAF fighters escorted by VC10 tanker to take part in exercises in US or NATO range in Canada.

They were Eurofighter Typhoons. Check the photography forum. Look under "Attention BOS spotters" or something like that.

In the past, these 'flights' would pass through Bangor. I'm surprised that they went to Boston, where I'd guess the whole cost of doing business would be a bit higher.

Common sight in the US, a RAF tanker supporting combat aircraft on exercise.
But most often for the ranges in Nevada.
Then there is a Goose Bay base in Canada?

I am sure they could care less about landing fees at BOS.

The VC10 and chicks were in BOS due the weather at BGR, and the fact that the other half of the RAF fleet is at BGR just now, with only the little hotel to go to with a finite amount of beds, and only Dunkin Donuts and the Mall to do for excitement... BOS aquarium wins every time!

We stay at that same hotel during layovers in BGR. Always a fun time to meet the various RAF crews in the lobby restaurant!

There shouldn't be any landing or parking fees assessed. Since BOS, and most other US airports take federal funds, the US government aircraft don't have to pay landing/parking fees. The US government usually extends this to aircraft of other countries.

Now, the RAF will have to pay for the fuel they get.
