Is the RAAF getting C-17 training from the USAF at Altus AFB, OK (now there's a real garden spot you want to visit)? Or is Boeing providing the training as part of the contract?

From what I was told, the RAAF was getting the help from the USAF. Most of the training was coming from Altus, and then Hickam AFB was sending jets down to help train for maintenance.

Altus is greatly improved over what it was when I was stationed there in the middle '70s. No McDonalds, lots of mom-and-pop burger places and the town was relatively small. I've since driven through there as a truck driver and things have really changed. No more C-141s, lots of C-17s and a few C-5s. KC-135s are still there (R models) though I worked on KC-135As when I was stationed there. You are quite apt to see C-17s flying in formation while passing through there now.

Yeah, it is the school house for the KC-135R now (since Castle closed in the mid 1990s), in addition to the C-5 and C-17.
