Anybody In The Air Training Corps?

Sun Mar 11, 2007 7:02 am

Hi all,
I am wondering if anybody on airliners.net is in the Air Training Corps (ATC)? I have just recently joined 607 (Wearmouth) Squadron and its brilliant. If so, what is your favourite activity or event?
Thanks

enjoy you cadets experience for what it is and you will have great fun and have many memories., but do not forget that although you may have some background knowledge you ARE NOT a member of the armed forces, and if you ever do sign the dotted line and enlist that you may as well forget all air training core experiences as you will get smashed and instructors WILL go out of their way to single you out during basic recruit training.

as first stated enjoy the experience make some new friends have a bit of fly if possible you will love it.

I started in 402 sqn in the Australian air force cadets and am now seriving in the RAAF as an aircraft life support fitter and loving every minute of it

I was ATC at RAF Llanbedr in North Wales back in the early seventies. It was fun while it lasted.
Now in the Canadian Forces, Aviation Tech. As High_flyr69 points out

I was part of 1756 (Broxburn) Sqn, in the late 1980s/ early 1990s. All I wanted to do was fly and they backed me all the way to get a Flying Scholarship. I got sponsorship to get my Pilots Licence at 17 when everyone else was learning to drive. I now fly Harriers, so something worked out OK. You don't get to fly with the Scouts! It can be a great incentive to young people to work hard there as you get amazing rewards, but several "instructors" left due to having affairs with each others wives- just like the real world then...  Wink.

Hi there 1 word Enjoy, when I was a cadet I flew in c130, nimrod, sea king, puma ,chinook, scout, gazelle, wessex, domine, chipmunk bulldog tutor plus all the gliders . Its a great organisation for young people with many more chances of trying things now there are courses for most things from microlite flying to alpine sking so have a go whilst you are young.
After 5 years as a cadet then 4 years in the RAF I rejoined as an instructor and 20years later I am still enjoying it ..... ps have a look at our site www.620atc.co.uk
