Help Identify Guam Airfields?

Sat Apr 07, 2007 7:40 am

Can anyone help identify these two abandoned Guam airfields.

First airfield is located to the Northeast of Andersen AFB, connected to the weapons depot for Andersen. It has two runways that are about 10,000ft long. From Google Earth it looks like a modern military airfield save the buildings.

The next field is located adjacent to Apra Harbor on the South side of the Island.

Big version: Width: 792 Height: 659 File size: 92kb

Big version: Width: 1050 Height: 750 File size: 57kb

Any help?

The last photo is Orote Point. I believe the airfield was of the same name. It is no longer in use and is part of the U.S. Naval Station Guam (or that's what they used to call it!).

According to "Guam,Then and Now",the first field is Northwest Field and used by the B-29's,as was North Field, now Andersen A.F.B.

Correctly identified as Orote Field, the second photo shows the old Japanese single strip airfield after the U.S. forces had repaired and enlarged the field during WW2.

For some reason I thought the 2nd was NAS Agana, or maybe it's Guam Int'l Airport now.
