AF One & JetBlue In Dayton!?

Fri Apr 20, 2007 5:25 am

Of all the times to not have my camera with me!

Driving into DAY around 2pm, I noticed a 747 out near the hangars but did not know who it was until I got into the terminal and saw that it was Air Force One. At around 2:30pm it spooled up and left with a police escort down part of the tarmac and DAY made several flights wait out on the tarmac - FL 712, US CRJ, UA CRJ.

Then, I saw a A320 out on another part of the airport and as I made my way to B14 around 4pm I saw a B6 rotate and take off.

Anyone know what AF1 was doing in DAY? W in Dayton?

Also, B6 visiting DAY or stopover for fuel, mx?

Sorry for no pic's.

AF1

A VC-25? Unless PotUS is aboard, it's not AF1.

If it's there, probably a good chance PotUS there.

Nothing on the news though . . . speech-making somewhere.

It's a White House Press Corps charter using an E-190:

Yes, the President is in Dayton, and will be in Grand Rapids tommorrow. A C-17 is already here ahead of AF1.

When I went to Univ. of Dayton AF1 would always land at Wright Patt, why is it at DAY this time?

Yes, the President is in Dayton,

So in this case it is AF1. Rarely does the VC-25 go anywhere as anything other than AF1. The only recent exceptions that come to mind are the Reagan and Ford funerals.

Aside from the obvious (can the field accomodate a 747), a lot of it depends on where the event the President is traveling to is. For example, when he goes to the Atlanta Metro Area they have 2 options: Dobbins or ATL. Usually if the event is in Cobb or North Fulton, they'll use Dobbins. If it is in Midtown or downtown they'll use ATL. The idea is to minimzie the disruption to car traffic.

Actually, both VC-25s usually fly when the POTUS goes somewhere. One is AF1, the other flys as SAAM 28000, or SAAM 29000. Also, If an E-4B is not available, a VC-25A can be used for crew training and flies regular training missions.

It's Air Force One regardless
