Air Force One In FCO Tomorrow!

Fri Jun 08, 2007 6:35 am

Airliners.Net photographers please mobilize for the event! As far as I can remember, the last time that an Air Force One landed in the newly built FCO was in 1962 and carried President Kennedy for his visit in Europe.

The aircraft (and its twin) are expected to arrive in Rome in the early evening and the air space will be closed 1/2 hour before and 1/2 hour after landing. Italian newspapers report that fighters are already parked in a special area of the airport close to where the US transporters will remain for a couple of days.

Any update or info are welcomed!

*Flavio*

Why is that? No other head of government flight has that, why this flight on this day? Seems a bit stupid considering that most flights affected will be carrieing top businessmen, way more important then W bush.

It's been that way for a long time. This is to make sure no other aircraft come close, and clears the ground.

It's twin is still in the Everett Paint hanger, so I doubt it will show up. 2 of it's C-32A (757) cousins are also in Everett getting winglets installed. I submitted photos of the C-32A's but a.net hasn't posted them.

Are you for real??

This guy is the president of the United States. Leader of the free world. Trust me no businessman or anyone holds the same weight at the table as he does. He is my President and many in this world want to kill him so precautions need to be in place. After all we wouldnt want a liberal democrat running America.

Where did Air Force One land when Bush attended Pope JP II's funeral a few years ago?

Are you sure about that? 5X's 744F just appeared in full colors in front of the PAE paint shop this morning so I am guessing she was inside the past few days.

There are there paint hangers at PAE, I believe two can support 747's

Could be. The one on the far East is the 777 hanger, with the 767 right next to it, and then the original 747 hangar on the far West. Last 777 I saw being painted was AC's latest 772LR, but 5X's 744 was still in the 747 assembly bay at that time. So I suppose it is possible they moved her over at night and right into the 777 paint bay and painted her through last night, when they rolled her out, which would allow 28000 to still be in the 747 paint hangar, who's doors have been shut for weeks now (at least every morning and evening I drive by).

There are two 777s waiting for paint - an OZ 772ER and an AI 772LR - as of last night, but the OZ plane I think is now in the 777 hangar. I was busy staring at the 5X 744 - looks sharp! - so I didn't really check. Will do so tonight.
