Incredible Thrust Vectoring Video

Mon Sep 10, 2007 11:34 am

I thought about posting this in the military forum, but I never go in there, and I would be sorry if I missed it. It is a Sukhoi SU-30 doing a demo flight. I have never seen an aircraft bend the laws of aeronautics in the same way. Check it out. I did a search, and didn't find anything on this, if it has already been posted, I apologize.

Amazing,

It may have really hot missile avoidance capability. Nothing to sneer at. Amazing in a dogfight too.

The big question, however, is what is the Radar signature? If its big, she'll have to be very, very careful.

Not to hijack your thread, but heres another video of (what I think) is thrust vectoring of a X-31 landing. Incredible.

REALLY good. When it's "kill or be killed" you like your chances when you can get your weaponry pointed at your adversary and there's little they can do about it because their airplane isn't as good as yours.

Is it really that big of an Issue? The eurofighter was supposedly designed not to need a small radar signature due to its capabilities.

Although i would feel safer in a fight being invisible...

Cool video...not nearly the same AoA authority the F-22 has, but its pretty cool. I would think you'll see a avionics software update to bring it closer to the Raptor's performance real soon.

As I recall, the Eurofighter Typhoon has a small radar signature, but not nearly as small as the F-22 has. Still, I don't believe the designers of the Typhoon completely ignored the radar signature issue. Typhoon is incredibly maneuverable and that is perhaps its biggest advantage. Clearly, the Russians are also working hard to develop fighters that're a lot more agile than those they've designed in the past, though all will likely agree the SU-27 was no slouch in this realm.

Is the F-22 that maneuverable?

Doesn't the F-22 just vector vertically whereas the SU-30 can vector on both axises?

It looks like the SU-30 is much more maneuverable to me. But what do I know haha.

It is kinda hard to tell in that F-22 video because the Raptor doesn't have the smoke to show the airflow over the wings. In a dogfight, the Raptor can hold its own against anything fielded by any air force today.

I agree with you,F-22 are a superior aircraft due to its radarsignatur but if it comes to a dogfight......i say its up to the man behind the stick.

Big, really big. About like an F-15.

The F-22 only has a pitch control TVC, meaning two-dimensional control. The Su-30 can bought without TVC, with 2D TVC and with 3D TVC like in the video.,
