Air Force One (VC-137C) Livery

Tue Sep 11, 2007 6:45 am

Why did the livery of the old Air Force Ones (26000 and 27000) change? In the pictures below you will find the design on the vertical stabilizer is painted in a more rounded way and then changed to a sharper angle, then returned to its original design once it was retired. Also, the blue painted above the cockpit was changed to white and then back to blue. Can anyone explain this? Thanks!

Seems to be more inline with the other USAF VIP aircraft.

The first picture was of 26000 when it was took out of Presidential service in 1990 and put into service with the 1st MAS, 27000 had this paint scheme also when both VC-25's were put into service. 27000 still did Presidental back up when a 747 was down for mx. 27000 was probably put into its orginal livery by cash heavy contributers for the Reagan Library, 26000 is not in its Presidental livery at the USAF museum in Wright Patterson, nobody wanted to spend the money to paint it back.
I would help you but it is not in the contract

If I remember right the Presidential seal on the acft were serially controlled items and cost over $25,000 apiece.Plus anything that had a Presidential seal on it in the interior was stripped out for standard use by any other Government VIP who was high enough to warrent the use of a C-137C. The V in VC was also dropped in its SRD.

Also looking at the Reagen library pic of 27000 it is not fully back into its Presidential livery. I will give you a cookie if you can figure it out of what is not Presidential.
