Favorite Military Trainer

Wed Sep 12, 2007 10:21 am

There's been many polls about favorite bombers, fighters, helos and what have you. They all are cool but they have one thing in common, their crew all started out in trainers.

That said what is your favorite military trainer old or new.
Personally I love the T-37. I flew in it one time and that flight sticks out in my mind more than any T-6 hop I had.
Learning to fly, but I ain't got wings.

Without a doubt it would be the T-33 with the T-28 in second place.

For many years the North American AT-6C Harvard was the standard trainer for SAAF pilots, and today there is still a very active Harvard club, as well as many privately owned Harvard's that perform at various airshows

Those who went on to fighters used (We called it the Impala - built under licence) Aermacchi MB-326

Those have been replaced by Pilatus PC-7 Mk II Astra and BAE Systems Hawk 120.

Of them all, i think that the Harvard has the most character and then the Impala was just a treat to watch as kids. Those would list as my favorites. Of couse, all are SA trainers, but then again, i am proudly South African!

Northrop T-38 Talon. Gotta love a supersonic nimble sexy 'trainer'. And I want one. Bad.

Defiantly the Harvard, I am planning on starting to fly them at the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association come spring time. The sound of them, the look of them... It is just a beaut of an a/c.
Keep the shinny side up!

Right on ZBBYLW!!
There is nothing like the sound of the Harvard. It is so distinct and so powerful.
