Usaf Testing NP2000 On C-130's

Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:00 pm

Just saw this over at af.mil on the video news. They are going to start testing the NP2000 prop on the C-130 in support of the NY ANG ops on snow. This will be interesting to follow.

Checksixx, what is the NP 2000 prop? How many blades does it have? You know, the usual questions for us folk who don't know!

Thanks,

Juxtaposition! Anyone else note the 3-bladed C-130A in the background?

I'm guessing that you couldn't watch the video. It is an eight bladed prop that is currently only used on the E-2C Hawkeye. Flight testing begins in April.

Yeah its pretty cool! A company out of Ohio has already been flying aircraft with it installed, however, there has been no Air Force testing of the prop until now. Could be a significant performance increase!

I was trying to make the subtle point that on the Snow Aviation site, they say they have already commence flight testing. http://www.snowaviation.com/current.htm

From Snow's website:
"The key to this exciting project is thrust. This increased thrust will be provided to the Hercules through two very significant modifications. These modifications will include the addition of modern, high-technology propellers and additional turbofan engines along with other related airframe modifications to support the power plant upgrades."

Additional turbofans???

They are looking at using AE2100S or PW-150A engines with these props.

The Snow Aviation web site has not been revised since March 2006, so this is nothing new!

As I stated above, there has been no Air Force testing done yet and flight test begins next month.

You never stated "Air Force testing" above.

I read it to mean that Snow Aviation was not flight testing.

Just received a PM from Zeke and its clear that he's having difficulty understanding this thread, so let me break it down.

If anyone reads my post at the top and heads over to www.af.mil and then looks through the video news, you'll see a video titled "Blade Drop". When/if you watch it they state that Air Force flight testing of the NP2000 prop on the C-130 will begin in April.

Now Snow Aviation has been mentioned in this thread several times. They have done their own independant testing of this configuration. They were/are not conduction this testing for the Air Force in any capacity. Hope this clears things up for those that may have gotten confused here.
