How Did Sarko Fly Into LHR This Morning?

Wed Mar 26, 2008 2:19 pm

Out of passing interest, can anyone tell me what a/c brought Prime Minister Sarkozy and his new wife into LHR this morning?

On the second row of pictures here: http://www.rexfeatures.com/live/2008..._sarkozy_state_visit,_britain?cr=1

It's one of the French Air Force's A319CJ:

Sarkozy is not a "Prime Minister" but is, unfortunately, the President of the French Republic.
He used one of the A319CJ "Republique Française", which is quite surprising... Considering the size of his ego inversely proportional to its capacities, I would think he would have used one of the A340-200 ...

Prime Minister Sarkozy

He was actually elected President. Unless this is British humour in which case, he was elected King. Rather befitting since he is starting to appear on as many tabloids as the Royal family up North...  Wink

And I wish he'd take the train like everyone else. So much for saying the State is bankrupt everyday...
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

He took one of the "GLAM" planes. I think they changed the name of the fleet of planes that are exclusively for the use of the French president and government. They may have taken off the name but they are still being used the same way at the president and governement's leisure I suppose. I have no idea if it is Air France pilots who are commissioned for these flights.

Before Sarko and the missus' flew to Heathrow this morning on a state visit they went away to Morocco for Easter to spend the weekend in a palace in Marrakech. I wonder what kind of plane they took to go on that private trip. We have heard nothing, they kept it quiet.

At least they can no longer steal a Concorde for their own use and there are no AF A380s available yet.
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

The GLAM "Groupe Liaisons Aeriennes Ministerielles" doesn´t officially exist anymore since 1995. It was stopped to reduce the "expenses" of the Government.
It is replecd since then by ETEC = "Escadron de Transport, d´entrainement et de calibration" ... which does exactely the same job... at the same (huge) cost.

He probably flew the Falcon 900EX F-HBOL of his so good friend Vincent Bolloré, as usual ...

Apologies for downgrading Monsieur Sarkozy from his correct title to Prime Minister...

Proof that it is still easier for a European 'airline' to find a slot at LHR on a busy Wednesday morning than a US airline Big grin

I too am bemused that he didn't use this first official visit as a chance to take the Eurostar into St. Pancras for the first (?) time... that would be the first opportunity a French president has had to take the train to London and arrive in a station that doesn't remind him of Britain's greatest victory over the French Big grin

He (and his party) arrived on both of the AdlA A319s (obviously he was on only one of them  Wink )
Both are now parked in the Cargo area at LHR.

Not sure if it was connected but an AdlA C-160 Transall went into Northolt yesterday as well.

No problem. Don´t worry : Prime Minister is even too much honor for such a little insignificant person.
