New French "AF One" For Nicolas Sarkozy

Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:41 am

Our complexed french president says that it's A319 has a too short range for long trips (asia) and is too small vs the orther presidents plane, and the french army will acquire a A330-200 from Air Caraibes that will be completely refited with a VIP interior.
Article in French:
http://secretdefense.blogs.liberatio...fense/2008/06/le-futur-air-fo.html

or:
http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2008...ourdit-la-facture-de-l-Elysee.html

I would have prefered a A340-500, the best range...but certainly not the same price...

Maybe this has to do with Merkel getting an A340.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

The french AF already has an A340 as well, but I don't know if it's used for VIP transport...
And wasn't there another A340 coming as well? Surely he could use one of these instead of introducing another type.

What would the 330 do the rest of the time? It would be a great candidate for tanker conversion. Big grin
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

An A380 would be the plane that fits Sarko's desires best...

more seriuously, an A330 (a used one, flying with SR an LX before Air Caraibes) is not a bad solution...they need to replace the A310s anyway.

cheers

The ego of the dwarf Sarkozy is inversely proportional to the size of these A319 ...

Mister short size (and mind) needs a BIG Rolex, a BIG car and of course a BIG PLANE ... as a compensation for his small d*ck ?

The Economy in France has never been so bad, and France has never had such a bad Government. Restrictions are everywhere to reduce the debts ... except the budget for the Elysée Palace expenses who has just grown by 8%, while Sarkozy increased his own salary by 140% last year ...

Oh well ! The French voted for him ? They have him, for another 4 years ... if he can last until then.

FlySSC, I totally agree with what you are saying in your post.

I would rather be seeing President Mitterrand using the AF Concordes any time... rather than Sarkusco-bru-ni. At least the man was on par with Concorde. He had brains and style.

During the year 2007 expanses at the Elysée presidential palace took a steep hyke, 29% rising to 35,11 Million Euros. Maintenance costs took a 53% hyke and Sarko gave himself a 29% hyke on his "pocket money".

Now they came up with the purchase and refurbishing of a new "SarkForce One" plane. Not forgetting that he already has 6 Falcon jets at his disposal + seven Airbii but he is apparently not satisfied with the two VVIP Airbii 319s that are at his disposal at any time to take him anywhere day or night.

People get exited about some planes and associate their use with personal instability or "follie de grandeur" (let me laugh..)
Sarkozy will cut the expenses of the French state -including state-employees - by a significant amount.I would have vote for him if I would have been allowed to vote.(Although my tax- money goes to the state)
To me the socialists don't have any viable alternatives and have completely forgotten about global interrelation of economies ,ownership of resources and wealth ..
They consistently complain about everything but never ever wher capable to do anything better.
Typical example was the critic of Francois Hollande about the invitation to president Dr. Assad of Syria for the 14 July..
Sarkozy does change things and that's why he is good for France !

In Italy, the Quirinale (the mansion of the President of the Republic) costs about 235 million euros and it has more than 1,800 workers: an incredible waste of money.

We have two A319CJ http://www.airliners.net/photo/Italy...--Air/Airbus-A319-112CJ/1213715/M/ and some other planes.

If you reduce effectively the number of state-employees by 25% over five years ,by not replacing the ones that leave, you effectively participate to reduce the state-deficit tied to officials -paychecks.
If you initiate a change in foreign policy doing away with donctines blocking a true and balanced peace in the Middle East,it's more than just a cosmetic change.
If you invite members of the opposition Socialist party to participate through minister-level appointments ,to run the country,it' more than any other President has done before.
It seems I'm the only one on a.net defending Sarkozy-so be it- but it's strange that nobody could give me any viable alternative name for a president in France, who actually can deliver !
The socialists members of Parliament are a chic ,caviar-consuming class who have lost touch with reality and are a divided chat-club,arguing mora about themselves then global challanges.

A VIP A332 seems pretty fair. It's not too big, and the way it will be loaded, will have a pretty solid range, flying non-stop to every major city except those in oceania.

Wow----sounds just like our US Congress!
Oh, and lets not forget the folks currently entrenched in the White House.

IMHO an A32 would be a great VIP transport for a head of state and be considerably more economic to ops than a fleet of 74's like "We the People" here in the US now support.
I won't even get into the limousine issue either.

Chancellor Merkel is not getting anything.
The Luftwaffe ( or more precisely Bundesregierung Flugbereitschaft) has purchased two A343s from Lufthansa to replace two A310s. To be delivered in 2010 and 2011.

Agreed

France is a "major country." Our president is spending $5 billion on a fleet of helicopters for presidential transport. This would cover between 25-50 VIP A332s. For France to buy one A332 and outfit as VIP strikes a reasonable balance. An A319 would be kind of a joke for a nation the size of France, with its importance (and not to mention, its large military). France does not need to be bashful about an A332, a nice looking jet well suited to its presidential office.

On the other hand i totally agree with you that his 140% (or 173% ?? i don't remember) increase of his salary, the replacement of the 2 A319CJ by A330... wasn't the greatest idea he had !

By the way, they aren't only replacing only the 319CJ but also all the Falcon 50 and Falcon 900 fleet by Falcon 2000 and 7X ! but those Falcon are becoming old and that's pretty good to replace them when they still have a pretty good value.

I wish we had something a bit more modern with more range and speed and larger than the poor old 146s with those 4 little hairdryers under the wings. O I know we can boast our Queen flys in a Quad but wouldn't it be nice to have a couple of A319CJs for those little trips to the continent and an A330-200 to pop and visit the colonies across the pond.

Isn't France a Socialist State? No wonder they're always in trouble.

Government is big in the US as we speak, producing money to save a greedy industry.

On the A330, many staets prefer 4 haulers because they reduce the risk having to divert to the nrearest airport if an engine must be shut down. Then a A340 would give a more silent cabin, but slower climb which is not a nice idea with hundreds of manpads being unaccounted for.
A A340NG would solve that. -500s seem to be available with airlines shutting down ultra long haul routes..

It would offer the possibility to avoid unpopular airspace on long routes to Asia and give meters to have e.g. bigger bedroom.
