Apache's Over London This Morning

Fri Jun 20, 2008 9:27 am

Morning all,

Just wondering if anybody knows why two Longbow's were flying over London this morning at around 0945 at relatively low level (I could clearly see the empty weapon racks and radar bulb). I have seen a Chinook a couple of times in the last few weeks, but never Apache's.

Any ideas?

I work down in Wapping, and whilst not common, I get to see Apache's probably once every few months or so. Perhaps just a regular exercise?

I was somewhat surprised this morning as I have never seen Apaches over London, but I can only agree with you that it appears to be an exercise. They were over the Highgate (north london) area just FYI.

Thanks for the reply.

Those pesky Taliban, they are everywhere. Probably reconing a B&B in the east end.
I would help you but it is not in the contract

Are there any US Apaches in the UK, or are they all British mounts?

Just as an FYI, all British Apaches have Longbow.

I fairly sure that the US Army does not have any aviation assets in the UK, in fact, even during the Cold War I don't think there was anything much.
It was a USAFE show.

Strange...I was walking my dog this afternoon and 2 Longbows went straight over us, and the dog chased them off. But then again I do live in a valley used extensively by the military for low altitude training.

The Apache program just can't get a break, the thing has been proven susceptible to anything from sand to moisture. And now, dogs.
