Iran AF - Still Many 747Fs Active, 38 Years Old

Mon Jul 14, 2008 10:41 am

It appears that from the 747-100s the Iranian AF bought secondhand in the mid-70s quite a number are still active of which most carry basic Saha Air livery. Quite amazing if you realize the country is banned and these aircraft are mostly 38 years old. Odd that the pure freighters which were aquired new in 1976-78 seem to be out of service, though I´ve seen pictures last year showing them intact.

Additionally they have activated a fromer Iraqi aircraft:

as the Saha Air livery suggests, this aircraft was in service not too long ago, but now seems to be used for parts:

Iran beeing on the US no sell list is not going to get any new Aircraft for there Airforce for a long time unless they get rid of the Nuclear program and stop backing terror groups.

If not they will have to make do with the rearly old 747 fleet they have untill one day they can no longer operate them.

As Iran air uses classic 747s the Iranian Air force can still get the parts they need to fly the Classic fleet.

If iran air ever gets rid of its classic 747 fleet the Air force may grab them or try to upgrade with somthing a bit more modern.

It looks like 8100 is as well...amazing to think these people can still keep some planes flying, even with an embargo going.

I'm sure their Ebay purchases are making spares delivery even easier than ever!

5-8105 also seems to be a tanker still (although the tail section is not visible), it carries the black stripe markings behind the wings.

I cannot seem to make out the pilot director lights on the bottom of the fuselage (should be between the nose and main gear). I do see on all of them a VHF radio antenna (atop the hump) and a UHF radio antenna (atop mid fuslage).

This is 5-8105 under another regstration 15 years ago. Although its in a new livery and its old registration now its still carrying the black marker stripes, that why I think its still flying as a tanker.

I went back and looked at all the pictures. Airplanes # 5-8100, 5-8103, 5-8105, and 5-8107 all still have the air refueling receiver recepticals on them (the hump between the windshields and radomes, like the USAF E-4Bs and VC-25As). They could also be on the others, but I don't see them because of the angles of the pictures.
