Nasa Moonship flight target slips

Nasa has pushed back by a year its internal target date for flying the successor to the shuttle.
Agency officials say they are now aiming for September 2014 for the first crewed mission of the Orion ship.
This is a year later than Nasa had hoped for, but still inside its March 2015 absolute deadline.

This is actually well over two years later than the schedule when Constellation began. They originally targeted first flight for 2012, and even said with more funding they could make 2011.

The funding has not been forthcoming, and the current "Do-nothing Congress" can't even decide on an annual budget in a timely manner, instead only agreeing to "continuing resolutions" which fund the Federal Government at the same level as the prior year. But NASA needs the budget increases it was authorized in order to get Constellation going.

That might soon change, thanks to Russia showing its true colors in the past week, and lots of politicians on both sides of the Atlantic reconsidering the wisdom of teaming up, depending on, or otherwise doing business with Russia.
